Grinding your teeth is a condition known as “bruxism”.
Most people who grind, do it in their sleep. Bruxism can be due to airway problems or stress-related.
If left untreated it will lead to problems in the jaw-joint, broken or heavily worn teeth which are very costly and difficult to repair. Your dentist will help identify the problem and how best to treat it.
If the problem is airway-related your dentist may recommend a referral to an ear, nose and throat specialist for assessment and management.
If it is stress-related, we may fabricate you a bite splint (special mouth guard) to wear at night to protect your teeth.
